Oslo Gravel Loop

The Nordmarka forest starts fifteen minutes north of central Oslo. Most visitors leave the city without ever finding it.

Three hours in the Oslo forest. Twenty-five kilometres of rolling gravel that takes you properly into the wilderness north of the city without committing to a full day. Mixed woodland, a few real climbs, and enough distance to feel like you have actually explored something.

Your guide picks you up at your hotel. Fifteen minutes later, the city is behind you and the forest begins. The route climbs through birch and into denser pine, levels out on the ridge and threads through the trees on gravel that varies between fast and open and slower and more enclosed. Somewhere in the middle we stop — the exact spot decided with your guide on the day, based on conditions and what suits the group.

A good ride for anyone who wants more than a brief taste of Oslo's gravel forest without committing to a full day. If you want the full experience, the Ring 4 is there.

FAQ

Common questions

What is the Oslo Gravel Loop gravel tour?

Oslo Gravel Loop is a private guided gravel bike tour through the Nordmarka forest north of Oslo. At 25 km with around 350 m of elevation gain, it sits between our shortest forest tour and the full-day Nordmarka Forest circuit — proper forest immersion with real climbing and mixed woodland.

Is this tour suitable for recreational cyclists?

Yes, if you are comfortable on gravel and have some experience with moderate climbs. The route has real climbing sections but nothing extreme. It is a good choice if you want a genuine half-day in the Marka without committing to a full-day ride.

What type of bike do I need?

A gravel bike is the right fit. The roads are gravel throughout — rougher in sections than the Nordmarka Short tour. A road bike with narrow tyres would be uncomfortable. Gravel bike and e-bike rentals are available on request.

How does Oslo Gravel Loop compare to the other forest tours?

Oslo Gravel Loop sits in the middle of our three forest tours. Nordmarka Short (2 hours, 13 km) is shorter and easier. Nordmarka Forest (4 hours, 45 km) is the classic all-day circuit with significantly more climbing. Loop is the right choice if Short feels too brief and you are not ready for a full-day commitment.

Does the tour include a café or rest stop?

We can build a rest stop into the route — the exact location decided with your guide on the day. Just mention it when you enquire.
