The Nordmarka forest starts fifteen minutes north of central Oslo. Most visitors leave the city without ever finding it.
Two hours in the forest north of Oslo. Thirteen kilometres of pine and birch on good gravel, with enough climbing to feel genuinely in the forest — nothing that asks for a high fitness level. A proper first taste.
Your guide picks you up at your hotel. Fifteen minutes later, the city is behind you and the trees are already closing in. The route climbs gently through stands of birch before the forest thickens into darker pine. The gravel roads are well-maintained — fast in the dry, manageable in any weather. The terrain opens up at intervals before the trees close back in.
A good ride for a first taste of Oslo's forest, for riders who want trees without a full-day commitment, or for a morning ride before the rest of the day. If you finish and want more, the Gravel Loop and the full Ring 4 are there.
Oslo Gravel Short is a private guided gravel bike tour into the Nordmarka forest north of Oslo. At 13 km with around 150 m of elevation gain, it is our shortest forest tour — a genuine two-hour introduction to the Marka on good gravel roads through pine and birch woodland.
Yes. Oslo Gravel Short is our most accessible forest tour — 13 km with gentle climbing on well-maintained gravel roads. It is suitable for occasional cyclists, families with older children and anyone who wants a proper taste of the forest without a long or demanding ride.
A gravel bike or e-bike is the right fit. The roads are gravel throughout and a road bike with narrow tyres would be uncomfortable on the surface. Gravel bike and e-bike rentals are available on request. E-bikes are a good choice if you want to enjoy the forest without focusing on the effort.
Oslo Gravel Short is the easiest and shortest of our three forest tours. Nordmarka Loop (3 hours, 25 km) goes deeper with more climbing. Nordmarka Forest (4 hours, 45 km) is the classic all-day circuit. If you are new to the Marka, Short or Loop are the natural starting points.
We can stop at a forest café on the route if the group wants to — just mention it when you enquire and we will factor it into the timing.
